Traction Mat Kits

What are Hydro-Turf traction mats made of?

All Hydro-Turf traction mats are manufactured from marine-grade EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) closed-cell foam. This material is lightweight, UV-resistant, does not absorb water, and provides excellent grip and cushioning in wet conditions. We've been refining our materials and manufacturing process for over 30 years.

What's the difference between Standard, Pro, and Premier mat kits?

Hydro-Turf offers three tiers of traction mat kits to suit different needs and budgets:

  • Standard Series features classic cut patterns including Diamond, Groove, Waffle, and Flat. These are available in a wide range of colors with optional PSA adhesive backing. Standard kits offer proven performance and durability at an accessible price point.
  • Pro Series features CNC-cut geometric patterns including Diamondback, Hive, Razor, and Signature designs. Pro kits include premium finish options such as Knurled, Laser Wood Grain, and Laser Carbon Fiber. PSA adhesive is always included. Two-tone color combinations are available.
  • Premier Series features stitched marine upholstery materials, offering show-quality craftsmanship. Premier kits are designed for racing, show builds, and riders seeking the highest level of quality and appearance.

How do I know which mat kit fits my watercraft?

Every mat kit on our website is listed with specific year, make, and model fitment information. Browse by brand — Sea-Doo, Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Polaris — and locate your exact model and year range. If you're unsure about fitment, contact us and we'll confirm the right kit for your watercraft.

Do you make mats for jet boats?

Yes. We manufacture both Standard and Pro Series mat kits for a wide range of Sea-Doo and Yamaha jet boats, including the Challenger, Speedster, Sportster, Islandia, Utopia, and AR/SX series. Jet boat kits always include PSA adhesive. Complete kits and rear-section-only kits are available depending on the model.

Do you make mats for stand-up paddleboards?

Yes. We offer SUP traction pad kits with PSA adhesive included. Available patterns include Long Diamond and Small Diamond in multiple colors. We also sell SUP & Surf traction mat sheets for custom applications.

What colors are available?

We offer an extensive color palette across all product lines, including black, grey, white, blue, red, green, and numerous specialty colors. Many products support two-tone color combinations, allowing you to create a custom look for your watercraft. Available colors vary by product — check the specific product page for options.

What does "two-tone" mean?

Two-tone means your mat kit is produced using two different colors, creating a custom contrasting look. This option is available on most Standard and Pro Series mat kits for an additional charge.

Installation

What is PSA adhesive?

PSA stands for Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive. It's a peel-and-stick adhesive backing applied to the bottom of your traction mats. Clean your deck surface thoroughly, remove the protective backing, position the mat, and press firmly into place. The bond reaches full strength after 24–48 hours of cure time. PSA is included on all Pro Series, Premier, and jet boat kits. It's available as an add-on for Standard PWC kits.

What is contact cement installation?

Contact cement is an alternative adhesive method where cement is applied to both the deck surface and the back of the mat. Once both surfaces become tacky, they are pressed together for an instant, permanent bond. This method is preferred by professional installers and racing teams because it eliminates air pockets and creates an extremely strong bond. Contact cement requires precise positioning, as there is no repositioning once contact is made.

Which installation method should I choose?

For most owners doing a self-installation, PSA adhesive is recommended. It's straightforward, forgiving, and creates a strong permanent bond. Contact cement is ideal for professional installations, racing applications, or experienced installers who want the strongest possible bond with zero air pockets.

How do I prepare my deck for installation?

Proper deck preparation is essential for a lasting bond, regardless of adhesive method:

  1. Remove any existing mats, adhesive residue, or protective coatings from the deck surface.
  2. Clean the deck thoroughly using a marine-grade degreaser. Remove all dirt, oil, wax, and salt deposits.
  3. Allow the deck to dry completely. Moisture prevents proper adhesive bonding.
  4. Install in moderate temperatures (60–90°F) for best results.
  5. After applying the mats, press firmly and evenly across the entire surface using steady hand pressure or a roller.
  6. Allow 24–48 hours of cure time before riding (for PSA installations).

Can I install the mats myself?

Yes. The majority of our customers install their own mats using PSA adhesive backing. No special tools are required — just thorough deck preparation, careful positioning, and firm pressure during application. Detailed care should be taken during deck cleaning, as this is the most important step for a successful installation.

Seat Covers

What's the difference between Standard and Premier seat covers?

Standard seat covers (SEW series) are constructed from durable, marine-grade materials designed to fit specific watercraft models. They're available in a range of popular colors and provide excellent UV resistance and longevity. Premier seat covers (AZ-SEW series) are crafted from premium stitched marine upholstery materials, offering superior craftsmanship, luxury appearance, and enhanced durability. Premier covers are ideal for show builds or riders seeking the highest quality.

How do I find the right seat cover for my watercraft?

Seat covers are listed by specific watercraft model and year range. Browse by brand on our website and locate your exact model. Each product listing specifies the compatible years and configurations. If your model has multiple seat configurations or you're unsure about fitment, contact us for confirmation.

Are seat covers difficult to install?

Seat cover installation varies by model but generally involves removing the existing cover or installing over the factory seat. Most installations can be completed at home with basic tools. If you prefer professional installation, any marine upholstery shop can handle the job.

Sheet Goods

What sheet sizes do you offer?

  • Pro Sheets (SHTPR): 40" x 80" — premium CNC-pattern sheets. Contact us for laser pattern options.
  • SUP & Surf Sheets: EVA foam sheets for paddleboard and surfboard traction applications.

What cut patterns are available for sheets?

Available patterns depend on the sheet type. PWC Sheets are available in Flat, Cut Groove, Cut Diamond, Molded Diamond, and Cut Waffle. Boating Sheets are available in Flat, Cut Groove, Wide Groove, and Molded Diamond. Pro Sheets are available in Flat with optional laser patterns (contact us for details). What is the underpad for?

Our Plush underpad is a closed-cell EVA foam cushioning layer that installs beneath your traction mats for additional comfort and vibration absorption. Available in three thicknesses: 9mm (3/8"), 18mm (11/16"), and 26mm (1"). Underpad is recommended for riders who want maximum comfort during extended use.

Product Care & Maintenance

How long do Hydro-Turf mats last?

With normal use and basic care, Hydro-Turf traction mats typically last 5–7 years or longer. Lifespan depends on riding frequency, environmental conditions, and maintenance habits. Regular cleaning and avoiding harsh chemicals will extend mat life significantly.

How should I clean my mats?

Clean your traction mats with mild soap and water using a soft brush or cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and pressure washers, as these can damage the EVA foam surface and adhesive bond. For saltwater use, rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each session to prevent salt crystal buildup.

Are the mats UV resistant?

Yes. Hydro-Turf EVA foam is engineered to resist UV damage and fading. While all materials exposed to prolonged direct sunlight will experience some color change over time, our materials are formulated to minimize fading. Darker colors generally show less visible color shift than lighter shades.

Can I remove mats once they're installed?

Removal is possible but the adhesive is designed to be permanent. Removing mats typically requires a heat gun to soften the adhesive and careful scraping to clean the deck surface. The mats themselves are generally not reusable after removal. Plan accordingly if you anticipate future changes.

Do the mats absorb water?

No. EVA closed-cell foam does not absorb water. The mats will dry quickly after use and will not retain moisture, mold, or mildew under normal conditions.
